Vicki R. Deal-Williams,
Chief Staff Officer for Multicultural Affairs
Vicki R. Deal-Williams is the Chief Staff Officer for Multicultural Affairs at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). She has more than 25 years of experience in diversity and inclusion, training and development, and organizational effectiveness. As Chief Staff Officer for Multicultural Affairs, she is also responsible for ASHA’s Convention and Meetings, Professional Development, and Continuing Education units.
Mrs. Deal-Williams is an ASHA certified speech-language pathologist, but she has also worked extensively in the area of diversity and inclusion outside the discipline of human communication. She was ASHA’s Assistant Director of the Office of Minority Concerns, directed a federal grant held jointly by ASHA and the U.S. Department of Education, and held previous positions in Training and Development at Fannie Mae (the Federal National Mortgage Association). While at Fannie Mae, she developed and implemented corporate diversity training and professional development programming related to leadership and management.
Mrs. Deal-Williams is a Fellow of ASHA and received both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Northwestern University. She is recognized as an astute visionary and diplomat and has received numerous honors and awards, including the President’s Leadership Award at Fannie Mae, the Learning Resources Network’s Course of the Year, and the Honors of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association. She also led the way to ASHA’s receipt of the Minority Health Leadership Award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Minority Health, for vision, innovation, and leadership in addressing health care disparities. She has served in varied roles with a number of community and nonprofit organizations, and is currently a member of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE)’s Diversity Committee.
