District of Columbia Early Intervention Requirements for Practice

The information below is collected from state licensure boards or regulatory agencies responsible for developing requirements for the professions of audiology and/or speech-language pathology to work in the early intervention setting. Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology

Education

Master’s degree

Certification/Licensure

Must meet guidelines for ASHA certification and DC Department of Health Licensure.

Training

All Early Intervention providers must complete modules for delivery of service, attend trainings for the online case management system and the AEPS assessment instrument. In addition, providers will be trained in a coaching model.

Speech-Language Pathology Assistant

May only work in child care centers.

Continuing Education

Providers will be responsible to be current in the programs offered though Strong Start.
