ASHA Glossary: Bradycardia (or "Brady")

A slower than normal heart rate (in an infant = below 100 beats/minutes; normal heart rates are 120–160 beats/minutes); often occurs with apnea. Bradycardia is relative to each individual infant's "normal" resting heart rate. For example, preterm infants typically have higher heart rates (160–180 beats/minute). During work such as feeding, it is common to see the heart rate increase 10 beats/minute over the baseline value.
