Wambaugh, J. L., Duffy, J. R., et al. (2006).
Journal of Medical Speech-Language Pathology, 14(2), xxxv-lxvii.

AGREE Rating: Recommended with Provisos

This evidence-based guideline provides recommendations for the treatment of acquired apraxia of speech (AOS) in adults. While the target audience for this guideline is not stated, the recommendations are directly relevant to the practice of speech-language pathology.

  • Based on a systematic search of the literature, the guideline committee found articulatory kinematic treatment to be "probably effective" and rate/rhythm control and intersystemic approaches to be "possibly effective" as a treatments to improve speech production (pp. xlvii, lii, lvi).
  • At this time, however, there is insufficient data to recommend one approach over another.
