On March 31, 2014, the Senate voted to pass the House-approved bill (H.R. 4302) to suspend the projected 24% cut to Medicare Part B payments and to extend the therapy caps exceptions process through March 2015. The legislation will also postpone implementation of ICD-10. At this point, it is uncertain whether Congress will continue to discuss long-term solutions to both the sustainable growth rate (SGR) and the Medicare therapy caps.
Speech-language pathologists who receive Medicare reimbursement are reminded that the manual medical review process will remain in place. As previously reported, manual medical review is now done post-payment in all states.
