Peristalsis or Peril - Unraveling the Mysteries of the Esophagus

Division 13 is sponsoring a live forum event on Thursday, August 28, 2008, 7:00-9:00 pm EDT. The event will bring together two experts who will respond to basic questions about esophageal anatomy and physiology and integrate that knowledge with discussion of clinical case application. During these "office hours," these experts will be available to answer your questions:

  • Caryn Easterling, PhD, CCC, BRS-S, assistant professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee; research scientist at the Veterans Administration Medical Center; assistant professor in the Departments of Neurology and Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition at the Medical College of Wisconsin
  • Bonnie Martin-Harris, PhD, CCC-SLP, BRS-S, director, MUSC Evelyn Trammell Institute for Voice and Swallowing; professor, Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Medical University of South Carolina; chair, Specialty Specialty Board for Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders

The event is open to all ASHA and NSSLHA members. It is not offered for CEUs.

Please note: The 2-hour forum cannot be accessed ahead of time. Postings to the forum will be allowed only during the period of the event. Afterwards, the forum content will be archived. If you have questions about forum event participation, please visit the event technical requirements page.

Perspectives is going GREEN to save some GREEN in 2008!

In 2008, Special Interest Division member publications, Perspectives, will be published online only. The Divisions are going to this new format:

  • To save some GREEN. Increases in content and frequency of publication coupled with increasing postage costs have put a strain on Division budgets. Publishing online only will free up resources that can be allocated to other Division programs and member benefits.
  • To be more GREEN. Online publishing is a positive step environmentally; it saves resources (paper, energy) associated with publishing hardcopy.
  • To respond to affiliates' interests in accessing content online.
  • To provide new benefits (e.g., archived issues).
