By submitting a paper for the ASHA Convention, you agree to the following:
- All authors participating in the presentation must register for the Convention.
- Authors must present in the time slot and format assigned by the program committee.
- Permission has been granted by program presenters for audiotaping and for official Association photographs.
- Unless specifically designated, ASHA programs are noncommercial forums. The inclusion of products, services, and materials used for practice and research is encouraged when efficacy is supported by evidence. However, the presentation platform is not intended as a forum for sales or marketing activity.
- All authors must disclose to participants (prior to the presentation) any proprietary interest in any product, instrument, device, service, or materials discussed in a presentation as well as the source of compensation related to the presentation.
- Presenters from any Association podium must refrain from overt statements or pointed humor, which disparages the rightful dignity and social equity of any individual or group.
- All program presenters are expected to follow accepted procedures to protect human subjects and confidentiality.
- All presenters will follow the guidelines for crediting authorship for research presentations as outlined in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association.
- Presenters are responsible for obtaining written permission from copyright holders for the duplication of previously published materials distributed as handouts at any session.
Author Information
Each author's information must include:
- Name
- Institution/Facility/Employer
- Address
- Phone/fax/email
- Membership status
- Presenting role (author, session chair, primary contact only)
- Special assistance needs
- Biographical Sketch (50 word bio sketch for each presenter). The biographical sketch must detail the author's qualifications to present on a topic and is required.
Title and Text
- Title of proposal (not to exceed 10 words/100 characters)
- Abstract of proposal (not to exceed 100 words/1000 characters). Abstracts will not be edited, so please proofread carefully!
- Summary of Proposal (not to exceed 1000 words/8000 characters). Include more detailed information which will give reviewers a clear picture of the content of the presentation.
Paper Information (demographic information)
- Instructional Level (Introductory, Intermediate, Advanced)
- Target Audience (SLP, Audiology, both)
Time-Ordered Agenda
Each proposal must include a time-ordered agenda for the presentation.
Example (for 2-hour session):
- 15 minutes –Introductions and Overview
- 30 minutes – Background
- 30 minutes – Case Study Small Group Discussion
- 30 minutes – Information Sharing from Small Group Discussions
- 15 minutes – Conclusion and Wrap-Up
Content Area
Select the one content area which best encompasses the primary subject matter of your proposal. Read the descriptions carefully. Choice of the topic committee determines who will review the proposal and influences the intended audience. Selection of a single committee for submissions is sometimes difficult as topics may fit in more than one area, however, choose the content area that best represents the focus of your session.
Session format
Select the type of presentation you would like from this list and descriptions of the session types. Keep in mind that some session types are ticketed courses where an additional fee is charged.
Abstract Type
All sessions should be designated as either professional education or research. This information will determine the evaluation criteria for the proposal. It will also be published in the Convention Program to help attendees determine the focus of the presentation.
- Professional Education
Presentations regarding innovative procedures for research, clinic, and/or programming or discussion and debate regarding professional issues related to a topic area. May be based on data or information previously presented in textbooks, research literature, professional conferences, or other dissemination outlet. Submitted for originality, relevant contemporary impact, or continued appeal to significant numbers of attendees.

- Research Submission
Papers that present new research findings or research in progress dealing with typical and/or atypical aspects of hearing, language, speech, or swallowing. Presentations should be based on original research and provide new data/information pertaining to either scientific bases of the discipline or clinical practice. Data/information regarding new interpretations of existing data may also be included in this category. Submissions are appropriate for authors and attendees with the objective of sharing the process and products of inquiry.
