Coordinate efforts dealing with the development of policy, position and guidance documents related to definition, assessment, personnel preparation, delivery of services, continuing education, and communication needs of persons with severe disabilities (LC 49-85)

The enabling resolution did not specify the number of ASHA representatives for this committee. Typically, ASHA has two SLP members and an ex officio.

Commitments/Obligations

  • ​Two face-to-face meetings per year. One meeting is held in the spring. The location rotates among members. The group also meets on Committee Day at the ASHA Convention.
  • Monthly conference calls.
  • More calls may be needed for subcommittee work on specific projects (updating resources, planning for a research conference, updating the web-based resources).

Desired Service Qualifications/Experiences

Experience working with individuals with severe communication disabilities through research, teaching, and/or clinical practice.
