Gwendolyn D. Wilson

Vice President for Audiology Practice

Gwendolyn D. Wilson, EdD, CCC-A, is an ASHA Fellow and is the current Vice President for Audiology Practice. Her previous ASHA service has included memberships on the Clinical Certification Board, the Board of Ethics, the Council for Clinical Specialty Recognition, the Legislative Council, and the Ad Hoc Committee on Governance Transition. She has also served as a site visitor for the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology.

At the state level, Dr. Wilson is a member of the South Carolina Board of Examiners for Speech Pathology and Audiology, and she served one term on the Board of Directors of the National Council of State Boards. She was awarded the Frank R. Kleffner Clinical Career Award and the Honors of the Association by the South Carolina Speech and Hearing Association. In 2000, Dr. Wilson was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the National Black Association for Speech-Language and Hearing.

As a professor of audiology at South Carolina State University, as well as the chair of the Department of Health Sciences, Dr. Wilson pursues her research interests in the areas of hearing problems in the elderly and aural rehabilitation. During her career, she has worked in public schools, nursing homes, and hospital settings. Her professional interests also include a focus on standards for the profession, credentialing, and ethical practices in service delivery.

Dr. Gwendolyn D. Wilson earned her bachelor's degree in speech therapy from South Carolina State University. She earned her MS, MEd, and EdD in audiology from Teacher's College, Columbia University.
