The U.S. Department of Education (ED) has announced the list of invited full applicants for the FY2008 Early Reading First (ERF) grant competition. The deadline for applicants to submit pre-applications was April 7, 2008, and the deadline for transmittal of full applications by invited applicants is June 10, 2008.
Full applicants must submit an entirely new application package for the grants under this competition electronically using the Grants.gov site. More information about how to submit full applications electronically can be found in the original application notice published in the December 28, 2007, Federal Register. Information is also available if you qualify for an exception to the electronic submission and need to submit by mail or hand delivery.
ED uses a two-phase system to select recipients for the Early Reading First grant competition that includes a pre-application and a full application. All applicants submitted a pre-application that briefly addressed certain key concepts. Applicants who were invited to submit full applications will respond to more specific selection criteria.
The Early Reading First program is a competitive grant initiative that will enhance reading readiness for preschool children in high poverty areas and where there are high numbers of students who are not reading at grade level. For more information on this grant competition, please visit ED's Web site contact Catherine D. Clarke, ASHA's Director of Education and Regulatory Advocacy, via e-mail at cclarke@asha.org or by phone at 800-498-2071, ext. 5611.
