How to Place a Classified Ad
To place your ad in The ASHA Leader e-mail your insertion order to Regina Gibson-Burtnick at RGibsonBurtnick@asha.org. Be sure to review the Clinical and Technical Requirements. Include the following information with your insertion order:
- The issue dates your classified ad is to run
- Contact name, mailing address, phone and fax numbers, and billing address, if different
- Indicate the type of ad you would like to place (display or column)
- If placing a column ad, include your ad copy
- If placing a display ad, include the size and shape of the ad you'd like to place (Electronic art is required for display ads. See Electronic Submission Requirements section.)

Deadlines
All copy, cancellations, and corrections must be received in writing by 12:00 p.m. Eastern time on the deadline date. The ASHA Leader is published every 3 weeks on Tuesdays.

Column Ad Rates
Position Available ads (text ads listed by state)………$138 U.S./vertical column inch 1 inch = 8 lines 1 line = approx. 35 characters/line Ads are priced in 1/4-inch (2-line) increments. Minimum = 3/4-inch (6 lines).
To estimate the cost of your ad
- Count the number of characters and spaces and divide by 35 to get the approximate number of lines in your ad.
- Divide that number by 8 and round up to the next ¼ inch. This will give you the number of inches. Multiply by $138.
- Alternatively, you can set your line length on your word processor for 35 characters or set your column at 2.4 column inches using 12-point type.

This ad has 278 characters. The approximate number of lines is 7.94. Rounding up to the next ¼ inch equals 8 lines, or 1 column inch. Cost = $138.00.
Stand out from the crowd by using a logo! Submit your camera-ready logo (no larger than 1 3/4" wide x 3/4" deep) no later than the day following the Column Ad Deadline. Cost…….$125 b/w; $300 color (per insertion).
Box Numbers……..Add $12 per insertion. We forward responses from your ASHA Classifieds box to an address provided by you. ASHA staff assigns the box number.

General Mechanical Requirements
Ads less than a full page require a border rule. ASHA does not float ads.
Display ads must be in specific dimensions. Film negative (with positive proofs), right reading, emulsion down, or one-piece camera-ready art. Four-color must supply color-corrected screen negative to size with set of progressive proofs and/or complete color proofs. Ads must measure the exact dimensions listed below. ASHA is not responsible for corrections or missed deadlines. Only ads meeting ASHA's clinical and technical requirements will be published.

Electronic Submission Requirements
To submit your display ad on floppy disk, Iomega Zip cartridge, Jaz 1GB/2GB cartridge, or CD-ROM please follow these requirements. For more details refer to asha.org/about/marketing
Adobe Acrobat PDF files All fonts should be embedded. All ads must use the Distiller Job Option settings posted at the web address above.
Adobe Illustrator EPS files Use Mac format, use CMYK or grayscale, and save file as eps. All fonts created in Illustrator should be converted to vector outlines. Files should have an output resolution no lower than 800 dpi.
QuarkXPress 4.x and Adobe PageMaker 7.0 (these are not recommended) Whenever possible, print or export QuarkXPress and PageMaker files as PDF files. If you must send page layout application files, always supply all the elements that went into the files: fonts (both screen and printer font files as Adobe Type 1 fonts) and art files (vector EPS and high resolution CMYK or grayscale or bitmap EPS images). DO NOT use menu styles bar for fonts in QuarkXPress. Images should have resolution no lower than 300 dpi. Bitmap files should have a resolution no lower than 1200 dpi. Do not embed graphics files into PageMaker page layout files.
Please provide: Labeled disk with advertiser name, ad name/headline, date, and return address; printout of items on disk; and positive proof/printout of ad.
