Introduction for ASHA/CASLPA Mutual Agreement Web site Information

ASHA and the Canadian Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (CASLPA) have developed agreements that will allow for the mutual recognition of certification between the two associations. The agreements permit individuals who hold valid certification from ASHA to become certified by CASLPA upon presenting evidence of their ASHA certification. Individuals who hold CASLPA certification will be eligible for ASHA certification after presenting evidence of CASLPA certification and fulfilling some additional professional clinical service requirements. These are currently part of ASHA's requirements, but not part of CASLPA's requirements. Both ASHA and CASLPA have endorsed each other's certification program in the fields of audiology and speech-language pathology as providing a substantially equivalent determination of an individuals qualifications to engage in entry-level independent clinical practice, and provide procedures by which certificate holders of either association can apply for and obtain certification from the other association. This Manual and these forms have been developed in accordance with these Agreements for Mutual Recognition of Certification Programs in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
