Socio-Economic Status and Cultural Influences on Language
Session focuses on how the social environment shapes language acquisition in children and highlights data from research, including a longitudinal study of families from two socio-economic strata in the U.S.; and a study on beliefs about children's language development and the impact on language attainment in China.

HIV and Communications
Session examines how HIV affects speech, language, hearing, and swallowing in adults and children.
 
11:15 am -12:30 pm 

Incarceration and Communication/Literacy in Adults and Adolescents
Presenters will discuss research findings on the relationship between language-based learning disabilities and young offenders who enter the juvenile justice system as well as implications for treatment programs and services.
 
1:30-2:45 pm 

Hearing Loss and Auditory Function  in Sickle Cell Disease
Presentation examines how sickle cell disease causes hearing loss, models for assessment and treatment, and implications for speech, language, and cognitive
development in children.
