(Rockville, MD- October 21, 2005) For the third consecutive time, the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) has been selected as a "Great Place to Work" by The Washingtonian magazine.
Held every other year, the competition selects places for their interesting work, good benefits, collegial staff, flexibility, and employee development. This year, a total of 55 organizations were picked from a pool of more than 225 candidates from the greater Washington, D.C. area.
ASHA was also selected as a "Great Place to Work" by The Washingtonian in 2001 and 2003.
The winning workplaces for this year's competition are recognized in the November 2005 edition of the magazine, which is now on newsstands.
"We thank The Washingtonian for its recognition and are thrilled to be selected once again," Arlene Pietranton, Ph.D., ASHA Executive Director, notes. "At ASHA, both internally through our organizational culture and processes, as well as externally, through our community outreach, we work hard every day to be a responsible, forward thinking workplace. It is very exciting to have our efforts recognized."
Others have also recognized ASHA's standing as an attractive employer. For example, the Maryland Work-Life Alliance has awarded ASHA its "Workplace Excellence Seal of Approval" annually for the past several years. In 2004, ASHA was recognized as one of the "Best Small and Medium Companies to work for in America" by the Great Place to Work Institute and the Society for Human Resources.
ASHA is the national professional and scientific association for more than 120,000 audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and speech, language, and hearing scientists. Audiologists specialize in preventing, identifying, assessing, and treating hearing disorders, including fitting hearing aids and other assistive listening devices. Speech-language pathologists identify, assess, and treat speech and language problems including swallowing disorders.
