New Public Relations Director at ASHA

(ROCKVILLE, MD-August 4, 2005) The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), Rockville, MD, has hired Joseph Cerquone, CAE, as its new Director of Public Relations.

"ASHA is committed to advancing knowledge and information about communication sciences and disorders, so it is only fitting that it puts renewed importance on having a first rate public relations effort that serves and highlights the work, achievements, and professional interests of our members and informs the public about our professional fields," ASHA Executive Director Arlene A. Pietranton, PhD, notes. "We have taken a step forward in that direction by putting Joseph Cerquone in charge of our PR unit."

Cerquone holds a masters degree from the Medill School of Journalism, and the designation of Certified Association Executive (CAE) from the American Society of Association Executives. Over more than two decades, he has held a wide variety of communications positions in the Washington, D.C. area association and non-profit worlds and elsewhere. Before joining ASHA, he was Vice President of the American College of Health Care Administrators, Alexandria, VA. Besides the staff positions Cerquone has held, he has also had a successful career as an editorial consultant and writer for numerous clients in both the for-profit and non-profit arenas, as well as for advocacy, trade, and mainstream press.

ASHA is the national professional, scientific and credentialing organization for more than 120,000 audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and speech, language and hearing scientists. For more information about ASHA, visit www.asha.org.
