Helpful Hints for Using the Knowledge and Skills Acquisition (KASA) Summary Document

Note: The information provided below is intended to facilitate use of the Excel version of the KASA forms by academic programs that wish to use the form to track students' progress in gaining the requisite knowledge and skills required for earning the Certificate of Clinical Competence.  The Web version of the KASA forms are in pdf format and are provided for informational purposes only.  A disc with both the audiology and speech-language pathology KASA forms in Excel was sent to all undergraduate and graduate education programs in audiology and speech-language pathology in Fall 2003.  Students should contact their graduate programs to obtain a copy of their completed form.

The KASA Excel file has several components (Cover Page, Instructions, Knowledge & Skills Acquisition Summary, and Verification by Program Director) that are housed in separate tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet. You will need to open each sheet individually to see the entire document. If you print the form, you should select "Entire workbook" to print the entire document. If you do not select this option, only the specific sheet that appears on the screen at the time will print.

Depending on the version of software that you have on your computer, you may experience some formatting irregularities. However, you should be able to use the electronic version to make any adjustments necessary within your own system to be able to work within the document.

You will note that a few standards are not listed within the body of the KASA's table structure. However, they are listed on the final Program Director Verification Page, which is the portion of the certification application that individuals will submit (similar to current practice). The program should maintain some documentation related to where and when a student demonstrated these requisite knowledge and skills.
