As professionals and families readily integrate tech tools into therapy programs, there is little-to-no current research to support their validity or clear-cut boundaries for their use, so we must rely on tried-and-true therapy techniques. In this webinar, we will focus on maximizing the efficacy of the iPad by using evidence-based methodology based on how children learn. We will apply a theoretical framework for assessing the child’s ability to navigate the iPad and demonstrate the steps of goal selection, implementation, and reinforcement while using apps to the meet communication goals. With our guidance, therapists, educators, and family members will feel more confident incorporating tablets as invaluable tools for monitoring and enhancing a child’s progress.
Note: iPads are used exclusively in this session; however, the concepts translate to all tablets and mobile devices.
Learning Outcomes You will be able to:
- Describe how to make the iPad (or other tablet) not just a hi-tech addition to your toolbox, but an effective means of achieving developmental goals.
- Implement a sound framework to guide you when integrating the iPad into the child’s assessment and therapy program
- Choose and use appropriate and effective apps for working towards any child’s communication goals
