SIG 16 Perspectives Vol. 14, No. 2, June 2013

This issue of Perspectives focuses on the relevance of Professional Learning Communities to school-based speech pathologists. PLC is a professional development process through which educators work collaboratively and use data to focus on students’ learning in order to enhance professional effectiveness on behalf of students. PLCs and communities of practice are compared and contrasted. The articles provide several examples of how busy SLPs can participate in the process, whether they are assigned to one or multiple buildings. Numerous examples of PLCs are provided. While efficient PLCs may vary in design and operation, they all provide many benefits to teachers, SLPs and most importantly, to students.
