Visitors to New Orleans will find several transportation options to get from one destination to another. In addition, this year a number of the Convention hotels will be within easy walking distance from the New Orleans Morial Convention Center. ASHA will also be providing free shuttle service for convention attendees to ASHA-sponsored events.
From the Airport
Airport Shuttle, Inc. is the official ground transportation for Armstrong International Airport. Shuttle fare is only $15 one-way to most downtown destinations, with departures approximately every thirty minutes. Travelers can also opt for walk-up limousine and sedan service to the French Quarter area. The rate is about $35 for one or two people and $10 per additional passenger for up to 8 passengers. Limousine information desks are located on the lower level in baggage claim areas at the airport. Taxi fare from the airport to downtown is approximately $28 for one or two people. An additional $12 per person may be charged, up to a total of five passengers. A lower cost option is the city bus that will drop off passengers near the Superdome and Canal Street. Fares start at only $1.25. If you opt to use public transportation, bus routes and schedules can be found on the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority Web site.
Around Town
ASHA members are encouraged to utilize the free shuttles that will be running from the Convention Center to the ASHA hotels listed on our Web site. Evening shuttles will run after any official ASHA event. Shuttle schedules and routes will be posted on the ASHA Web site prior to the Convention.
Streetcars are inexpensive and a unique way to view national historic landmarks while riding in a national historic landmark. Streetcars run along St. Charles Avenue, Canal Street and the Riverfront. Fares are $1.25 for a one-way ride, or $5.00 for a day pass for unlimited rides which is available on any RTA bus or streetcar. VisiTour passes can also be purchased; one day passes are $5.00 and three-day passes are $12.00. For more information, call the RTA RideLine at 504-248-3900 or visit New Orleans Regional Transit Authority for the latest schedules. Taxis are also available if your destination is not located along the streetcar lines.
Safety First
Remember that New Orleans is like any large city and remaining alert and aware of your surroundings is important. Prior to venturing out of your hotel, you may wish to consult with the concierge or front desk staff to make sure your destination is in a safe area. Try to avoid walking alone, especially at night. Always remember to remove your ASHA badge when you are outside the Convention Center or your hotel. You may be most vulnerable to pickpockets or purse thieves on Bourbon Street and the French Quarter area, so be sure to secure your wallet and valuables.
