Select the format that best suits your proposal. All authors presenting in all formats are expected to arrive at the scheduled location early enough to set up their audiovisual or poster session materials for presentation. The session formats available vary depending upon the content area you select.
Poster Session (90 minutes): SLP and Audiology Topics Poster sessions should visually guide each viewer through the basics of the study, freeing the presenter to focus on clarification and discussion of essential elements of the work. Poster presentations are an excellent mechanism to facilitate the rapid communication of scientific ideas. They provide a communication tool that combines a verbal presentation with a visual aid (the poster itself). This presentation format is more informal than a seminar and much more interactive—the opportunity to meet people and have one-on-one interaction is one of the major advantages of poster sessions. Many times, they lead to new or further collaborations among colleagues as well.
Seminars (1 or 2 hours): SLP, Audiology, Basic Science Topics Seminars are one or two hour courses intended to provide in-depth, continuing education for speech-language pathologists and audiologists, and speech-language-hearing scientists. Emphasis is on clinical applications and research advances, backed by appropriate levels of evidence.
Short Course (3 hours): SLP and Audiology Topics Short Courses provide in-depth instruction with emphasis on clinical applications and/or science backed by appropriate levels of evidence. Presenters must demonstrate recognized expertise in their area and have experience presenting continuing professional education programs. Material being presented must be at the Intermediate level or above and no more than 3 presenters per course are preferred.
Short Courses are ticketed courses with an additional fee for attendance. Presenters are required to submit a copy of their handout to ASHA in advance, as ASHA will be responsible for distributing a DVD with all handout files.
Technical Platform (15 minutes): SLP and Audiology Topics A Technical/Platform presentation is a 10-minute presentation of research, or research in progress. The purpose is to communicate scientific information in an efficient form. A 5-minute question and answer period follows the scientific presentation.
Exhibitor Sessions (1 hour) Exhibitor Sessions offer Exhibitors a chance to demonstrate their products/services to ASHA convention attendees outside of the Exhibit Hall. The demonstrations will take place during regular convention programming. There are only 24 time slots available so submit your paper today. You may contact Renee Tross, Associate Director, Exhibits Sales & Operations, at 301-296-5764 or rtross@asha.org, if you have questions.
