Ethics and School-Based Practice: Applying Principles and Resolving Dilemmas

This session is developed by, and presenters invited by SIG 16: School-Based Issues. Ethical quandaries arise when presented with undesirable alternatives and no zero-risk choice exists. A decision-making model will be delineated, and ethical dilemmas in SLP and audiology practices, including supervision, confidentiality, support personnel, conflicts of interest, Medicaid billing, and assessment in linguistically diverse populations, will be analyzed by participants.

Learning Outcomes
You will be able to:

  • compare and contrast legal, ethical, local, and regulatory standards
  • analyze scenarios that constitute potential ethical violations
  • delineate key considerations in resolution of ethical dilemmas
