SIG 6 Perspectives Vol. 17, No. 2, November 2013
This issue of Perspectives focused on the changing health care environment and preparations for the future of health care. We first described ASHA’s Health Care Economics Committee, the Patient Protection & Accountable Care Act, Centers for Medical Services, and Physician Quality Reporting System. We then provided a professional organization’s view on how to best position the profession relative these changes. Issues of stakeholder involvement, organizational objectives, government oversight, and the role of the professional are discussed. Lastly, we provided an overview of what audiologists should do to prepare for future health care economics. This included a discussion of current and future payment models.
You will be able to:
- describe two of the three purposes of the Health Care Economics Committee
- distinguish reasons for the need to position audiology as a treatment, as well as a diagnostic service
- differentiate the current model of reimbursement from future payment models
