Student Ethics Essay Award Recipients

The Student Ethics Essay Award (SEEA) program is conducted as part of ASHA's efforts to create awareness of the importance of ethical decision making as individuals prepare to start careers in audiology, speech-language pathology, or speech, language, and hearing sciences. Recipients of the 2006–2009 awards are listed below. Select the titles below to read the winning essays. Information about the 2010 SEEA competition will be available later this year.

Participants were asked to write on the meaning and importance of the Principle IV of ASHA's Code of Ethics: "Individuals shall honor their responsibilities to the professions and their relationships with colleagues, students, and members of allied professions. Individuals shall uphold the dignity and autonomy of the professions, maintain harmonious interprofessional and intraprofessional relationships, and accept the professions' self-imposed standards." Participants were asked to write on the meaning and importance of the following statement from Principle III of ASHA's Code of Ethics: "Individuals shall honor their responsibility to the public by promoting public understanding of the professions, by supporting the development of services designed to fulfill the unmet needs of the public, and by providing accurate information in all communications involving any aspect of the professions, including dissemination of research findings and scholarly activities."
