SIG 7 Perspectives Vol. 20, No. 3, December 2013

This issue of Perspectives focuses on a discussion of current topics in aural rehabilitation. Presented first is a discussion of how to use a family-centered care approach in adult hearing rehabilitation with reference to "third-party disability." This article discusses the role of family-centered care in hearing rehabilitation and strategies for increased inclusion of family members in the rehabilitation process. Concepts from the field of psychology are applied to hearing rehabilitation. The second article discusses the effect of computerized auditory training (CAT) on speech perception of adults with hearing impairment. Nine published studies that evaluate a total of six CAT programs are reviewed with all nine demonstrating some benefit for speech perception. Implications for future research are presented.
