Audiologists must evaluate outcomes for patients with a cochlear implant, to both monitor the performance of the surgically implanted device as well as maximize quality of life. Several different types of measurement tools are available, and determining which ones are the most appropriate and effective is particularly important given the time constraints that clinicians face in a busy clinic. In this course, Teresa Zwolan will describe test measures commonly used to measure outcomes for adult and pediatric cochlear implant recipients, including individuals with additional disabilities or limited hearing with their device. The course will review recent expansions of cochlear implant candidacy and discuss how test measures are being modified to determine if a cochlear implant should be considered in particular cases, even if a patient does not qualify based on traditional criteria. You’ll walk away with a checklist of various test measures and the types of patients for which they are most applicable.
