International Applicants for the CCC-SLP

The following are requirements for international applicants for the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) under the 2020 SLP Certification Standards. These documents must be sent to the ASHA National Office, and payment in full included with your completed application, in order to have your materials evaluated.

Four-page application for ASHA certification in speech-language pathology [PDF]

Pages 1–3 must be completed and signed by the applicant, and mailed to ASHA. Submission of partial applications will delay processing. Photocopies will not be accepted.
Disclosure questions/ affidavits
- Answer all three disclosure questions and include explanations for any questions to which you answered “yes,” then sign and date the affidavit section.
- By checking yes, you understand that you will be required to submit certified documentation that has been certified no later than 6 months from the date all application materials are received by the National Office.
- After the receipt of all application materials, you will receive a request for certified documentation. ASHA must receive this required certification documentation within 60 days of the date of the request.
Verification by Program Director
- Verification, on page 4, must be completed and signed/dated by the Program Director (or “Principal,” “Headmaster,” etc.), and mailed to ASHA. Photocopies will not be accepted.
- Verification must include the date (MM/DD/YY) that coursework and clinical practicum requirements for ASHA certification were completed.

Practicum Hours Summary

You must include a detailed record of your supervised clinical experience.
If one is not offered by your university, contact certification@asha.org to request a Practicum Hours Summary Sheet.
You must indicate the specific location(s) where you completed your clinical hours, the name of your supervisor(s) and their appropriate credentials, and dates of completion.
You must have a minimum of 400 supervised clinical practicum hours that were completed during your graduate program, in which you were engaged in activities that are within the ASHA Scope of Practice for Speech-Language Pathology and that include all core competencies across the lifespan of clients/patients as outlined in the 2020 standards.
Supervision must be completed by an appropriately credentialed speech-language pathologist and must meet the minimum supervision requirements as outlined in the 2020 standards.

Official English translation of undergraduate transcript

Mail to ASHA—photocopies of your translated transcript will not be accepted.
Additionally, you must include a copy of your original untranslated transcript.

Additionally, you must include a copy of your original untranslated transcript.

Official English translations of undergraduate and graduate course descriptions and/or syllabi

Mail to ASHA or submit electronically via email at certification@asha.org.
Photocopies of course descriptions and/or syllabi are accepted.
Course descriptions and/or syllabi must be official university course descriptions, and syllabi must be from the time in which you were enrolled in the course.
Translations must be completed by a certified and/or credentialed professional translator.

Official and original credential evaluation report from a NACES member agency (reports older than 5 years will not be accepted)

This report must be received in addition to the English translations of your transcripts.
Your credential evaluation agency must evaluate your academic program(s) to be equivalent to the master's degree and bachelor's degree in the U.S.
If your degree is evaluated to be less than the equivalent of the master’s degree in speech-language pathology, you are ineligible to apply for the CCC-SLP.
ASHA completes a separate evaluation of candidates to ensure that all academics and practicum meet the requirements as outlined in the standards. Your credential evaluation report does not guarantee that you have met the standards; it only determines U.S. equivalency of credit hours and degrees.
If your credential evaluation agency evaluates your academic program(s) to be equivalent to the master's degree and bachelor's degree in the U.S. but ASHA's separate evaluation determines a deficiency in academics and/or practicum, ASHA will allow you 2 years (from the date your application was received at ASHA) to meet the requirements. Applicants deficient in academics and/or practicum should consider contacting local Communication Sciences and Disorders programs or Speech-Language Pathology graduate programs to ask to be allowed to take courses, or to complete practicum hours, as a "non-major" or "non-matriculated student." Prerequisite requirements such as physics/chemistry, biological science, social/behavior sciences, and statistics may be completed at the undergraduate level. Praxis Examination

All applicants must have a passing score (162) submitted directly to ASHA from Educational Testing Service (ETS).
ASHA must be designated as a score recipient.
The exam must be passed and reported to ASHA no later than 2 years after the date the application is received by the ASHA National Office.
Exam scores older than 5 years at the time the application is received by the ASHA National Office will not be accepted.

Full payment for initial application fee

Complete the charge authorization form (page 5 of the application), or submit a personal check made payable to ASHA.
Payment must be submitted in full with your application.

Clinical Fellowship Report and Ratings Form

Carefully read the 2020 SLP Certification Standards.
- Read Standards IV-A through IV-C carefully.
- Review the acceptable basic science courses for biological sciences, physical sciences, social sciences, and statistics.
Your application will be reviewed by the National Office once all of the above components are received. You will receive a Status Report with deadlines to submit missing documentation, if any.

If your application is complete and your academics and practicum have been approved by ASHA, you will receive written notice that you may begin your Clinical Fellowship (CF).
If the application is incomplete, do not begin your CF—you must first submit all requested documents. Any hours spent in your CF prior to approval of academics and practicum will not count toward your 1,260 CF hours. Once your academics and practicum are approved, you may begin your CF.

A minimum of 1,260 hours are required under the supervision of a speech-language pathologist who holds a valid CCC-SLP.
- It is your responsibility to verify that your CF mentor's certification is valid.
- Your CF mentor will observe you for 6 direct and 6 indirect sessions per each segment (18 direct and 18 indirect total observations).
Submit a CF Report and Rating Form (last two pages of above application) to ASHA when your CF is complete.
