Candidate for Vice President for Government Affairs and Public Policy: Lou Malerba, CCC-SLP

Lou Malerba, MA, CCC-SLP, is a dedicated and accomplished leader in the professions of audiology and speech-language pathology, with a passion for advancing the professions and advocating for individuals with communication disorders. Mr. Malerba holds a master of arts in speech-language pathology from Hofstra University and a professional diploma in school district administration from the State University of New York, Stony Brook. With more than 4 decades of experience, he has made significant contributions to the field through his work in higher education, clinical practice, and professional leadership.

As a licensed speech-language pathologist in the state of New York, Mr. Malerba has demonstrated a commitment to providing high-quality, evidence-based services. He is known for his compassionate and client-centered approach, always striving to empower individuals to reach their full potential.

In addition to his clinical work, Lou has been actively involved in professional leadership roles within the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). He has served as chair of the School Finance Committee and the Government Affairs and Public Policy Board, where he advocated for policies that support the profession and improve access to speech-language pathology services. He is 2024 topic co-chair for the 2024 ASHA Convention. Mr. Malerba has been a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion within ASHA, working to ensure that the needs of all members are represented and addressed.

In addition to his professional work, he is deeply committed to his community and has been involved in various volunteer and advocacy efforts. He served as president of the Pasco County LGBTA Democratic Caucus, where he worked to promote equality and endowed a scholarship for LGBTQIA youth in Pasco County, New York. 

His dedication to the professions, his community, and his colleagues makes him a valuable asset to ASHA and to the professions of audiology and speech-language pathology.
