This pathway walks you step-by-step through the process of applying for reinstatement of the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) if your ASHA certification has expired, or has been resigned, retired, or revoked.
Determine if you are eligible to apply for reinstatement of the CCC-SLP.
Why: Individuals applying for reinstatement of their ASHA certification must meet current reinstatement policies and procedures.
Provide evidence that you completed professional development activities. The number of PDHs required for reinstatement is based on the amount of time you have not held the CCC-SLP.
Why: Ongoing professional development provides assurance to clients/patients that your knowledge and skills are up to date across the Scope of Practice in Speech-Language Pathology.
If your CCC-SLP has been expired for 12 months or less:

If your CCC-SLP has been expired for more than 12 months:

Why: Reinstatement is the issuing of a new certification, not the continuation of a previous certification. Therefore, ASHA must reassess the knowledge of all applicants for reinstatement, and the Praxis exam is the objective measure to do so. A passing Praxis score that is less than 5 years old provides assurance to clients/patients that you practice with skill and safety and that your knowledge is up to date.
Submit your online reinstatement application for the CCC-SLP. Check the status of your application in your ASHA account.
Read the current speech-language pathology standards to be aware of new requirements related to certification maintenance, providing student supervision, CF mentorship, etc..
Please allow 4–6 weeks for the review of your online application and required documentation. Certification can be reinstated only after verification that all requirements have been met.
Remember: Wait until you receive notification from the National Office that your certification has been reinstated before presenting yourself as holding the CCC-SLP or as being certified by ASHA.
