What TRICARE Providers Need to Know About TriWest Taking Over the Expanded West Region in 2025

October 25, 2024

Beginning January 1, 2025, TriWest Healthcare Alliance will replace Health Net Federal Services as the regional contractor for the TRICARE West region.

TRICARE covers active-duty service members, retirees, and their family members. TriWest (in partnership with Regence) will administer the U.S. Department of Defense's next generation TRICARE program, known as T-5. Six states previously considered part of TRICARE East (Arkansas, Illinois, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas, and Wisconsin) will become part of TRICARE West.

ASHA members have reported the need to re-enroll as providers with TriWest/Regence, even if they’re currently enrolled with Health Net Federal Services. They have also reported significant proposed rate reductions under their new contracts.

If you serve TRICARE beneficiaries in the TRICARE West region or in the six states switching from East to West in 2025, now is the time to confirm your provider status and closely review your contract so that you understand how this change will impact your practice. It’s important for providers to respond individually to their provider representatives at TriWest/Regence to express their concerns and share how this policy will impact their practice.

ASHA has developed a template letter [DOCX] for providers to edit and email to their TriWest/Regence representatives. Please fill in the name of your insurance representative, as they vary from one provider to the next. If you don’t know your provider representative, check your contract or provider account, or ask TriWest/Regence directly. This template offers a blueprint, but providers should add a personal touch to strengthen the message.
