ASHA CE Policies: Provider Statuses

List of Statuses

Note: Terms in parentheses reflect the status listed in the CE Provider Portal.

  • Approved (Approved) — Provider is newly approved. The organization needs to pay the annual fee and the Continuing Education Administrator (CEA) needs to complete onboarding before the Provider can begin submitting courses.
  • Active (Active) — Approval is in good standing. Active Providers are meeting all Standards for ASHA CE Providers and ASHA CE Policies or are in the process of actively addressing compliance issues with ASHA CE staff.
  • Active – Continuing Education Administrator Pending (Active CEA Pending) — The organization has appointed a new CEA and this person has been approved but has not completed the tutorial and onboarding process. The former CEA is still available to assist. The Provider may still submit new courses and add offerings and must report on all existing offerings.
  • Inactive (Inactive) — Providers may be placed in Inactive status for (a) failure to pay Provider-related fees (i.e., annual, late, cooperative offering, and other applicable fees); (b) failure to respond in a timely manner to requests from ASHA CE; and/or (c) repeated and pervasive failure to meet the Standards for ASHA CE Providers and/or ASHA CE Policies. The Provider’s ability to submit new courses and add offerings is suspended; however, the Provider must continue to report on all existing offerings. The Provider must address issues and/or pay fees before returning to Active status. Inactive status is limited to 12 months, after which time the process to terminate ASHA Approved CE Provider status begins. The Provider has the right to request reconsideration.
  • Inactive – Continuing Education Administrator Pending (Inactive CEA Pending) — The organization has appointed a new CEA, and this person has been approved but has not completed the tutorial and onboarding process. The previous CEA is not available to assist. The Provider’s ability to submit new courses and add offerings is suspended. Inactive CEA Pending status is limited to 12 months, after which time the process to terminate ASHA Approved CE Provider status begins.
  • No Continuing Education Administrator (NOCEADMIN) — The organization does not have anyone appointed to the role of Continuing Education Administrator (CEA) and the former CEA is no longer in the position. The Provider’s ability to submit new courses and add offerings is suspended. NOCEADMIN status is limited to 12 months, after which time the process to terminate ASHA Approved CE Provider status begins.
  • No Continuing Education Content Consultant (NOCE ContConsult) — The organization requires a CE Content Consultant and either does not have one or is in the process of having the CE Content Consultant approved. The Provider’s ability to submit new courses and add offerings is suspended. NOCE ContConsult status is limited to 12 months, after which time the process to terminate ASHA Approved CE Provider status begins.
  • Prospect — Organization has downloaded or requested an application. This designation may also be used on a formerly accredited Provider.
  • Applicant — Application for ASHA Approved CE Provider status is under review.
  • Application Withdrawn — Organization has withdrawn its application for ASHA Approved CE Provider status.
  • Application Not Approved — Accreditation has been denied. ASHA CE did not approve the application for ASHA Approved CE Provider status.
  • Application Returned — ASHA CE has returned the accreditation application to the applicant due to lack of payment and/or quality or completeness of the application.
  • Organizational Change (ORG CHANGE) — The Provider organization is going through an organizational change, and the necessary information either has not been submitted or has been submitted but has not yet been reviewed or approved. The Provider’s ability to submit new courses and add offerings is suspended. ORG CHANGE status is limited to 12 months, after which time the process to terminate ASHA Approved CE Provider status begins.
  • Changed Probation (Probation) — Providers must make a good-faith effort to achieve goals and meet deadlines set forth in an established compliance action plan. Lack of good-faith effort will first result in a revised action plan. Continued failure to put forth a good-faith effort on the revised action plan results in the Provider being put into a probationary status. The probationary period is 12 months. While in probation, the Provider may register new courses, add offerings, and must report on all existing offerings. The Provider is expected to independently comply with the Standards for ASHA CE Providers and ASHA CE Policies when registering and reporting on courses and offerings. ASHA CE will provide support, as requested by the Provider. Providers that are on probation but who demonstrate compliance with the Standards for ASHA CE Providers and ASHA CE Policies will be returned to Active status at the end of their 12-month probationary period. Providers that are on probation but who fail to demonstrate compliance with the Standards for ASHA CE Providers and ASHA CE Policies will lose ASHA Approved CE Provider status. Providers that are terminated have the right to request reconsideration. Providers are approved and re-approved for 5-year periods. Any Provider who meets the criteria for probation a second time during their 5-year approval period will have their ASHA Approved CE Provider status terminated.
  • Withdrawn (Withdrawn) — Provider organization has withdrawn. No fees are prorated or refunded.
  • Terminated (Terminated) — ASHA Continuing Education has withdrawn approval. ASHA CE reserves the right to terminate ASHA Approved CE Provider status, following due process, if an organization (a) provides false information on the application or in subsequent Provider reviews, (b) fails to conduct CE courses in compliance with the Standards for ASHA CE Providers and ASHA CE Policies, (c) fails to maintain the organizational and administrative requirements necessary for ASHA Approved CE Provider status, (d) fails to pay the annual fee and related late fees by established deadlines, and/or (e) fails to meet the requirements placed upon the Provider during a Probationary or Inactive status. When ASHA CE terminates ASHA Approved CE Provider status, the Provider is notified in writing. The Provider has the right to request reconsideration. No fees are prorated or refunded.

Reconsideration of Provider Status

  • Applicants and Providers who disagree with an ASHA CE application approval decision or Provider status change may request reconsideration in writing within 30 days of being notified of the decision. The Regulations and Monitoring Committee (R&M) of the Continuing Education Board (CEB) will consider these requests. If the R&M Committee sustains the original decision, then the applicant or Provider may request that the full CEB reconsider the R&M Committee’s decision. The CEB’s decision is considered final.
